* St. Josephs Oil: A Tradition for Today

The use of olive oil is an ancient tradition used in religious rites and sacramentally to anoint. Some have rubbed oil on the part of their body associated with their illness, while invoking a particular saint for assistance. Bro. Andre would recommend that the sick use the oil that was in front of the St. Joseph Shrine at his oratory in Canada. He instructed that the oil itself had no miraculous powers -- that only God could heal. He emphasized that prayer combined with the gesture symbolizing the strength of one’s belief were ways of expressing one’s inner faith in God’s power.

St. Joseph Oil comes from oil placed in a container which burns in front of a statue of St. Joseph for a time at the Oratory/Shrine of Mt. Royal, Canada. Then it is put in bottles and distributed. You are invited to use this oil as a sign of your faith as you pray to God for the graces you desire. There is no special prayer to say: you may recite any prayer that you wish or use your own words.  There have been numerous accounts of people who maintain that they have been aided by invoking Bro. Andre and St. Joseph when using the oil.
